Swiss chocolate is well known worldwide and Zurich is home to some of the best Swiss Chocolate stores. It was not always this way, the cocoa for the chocolate originates from South America and was transported to Switzerland in the early 16th century. Towards the end of the 18th century Swiss artisans started processing the cocoa and began small businesses producing chocolate. Some of the well known chocolate makers such as; Lindt, Suchard, Callier, Tobler and Sprungli were recognised.
